Released in the summer of 1957, this revolutionary album was recorded between 1948 and 1949. Considered the cornerstone of Cool Jazz, 'Birth Of The Cool' nevertheless took many years to establish itself. To begin this stylistic revolution, the trumpeter surrounds himself with nine outstanding accompanists to deliver an album oscillating between bebop rhythms and Big Band arrangements under the direction of Gil Evans. It is by surrounding himself with avant-garde instrumentalists including, among others, Lee Konitz, Gerry Mulligan, Max Roach, Kenny Clarke and John Lewis that Miles Davis manages to solve the musical equation of this seminal record.
